Technical support for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP driver stopped here. Windows 8/8.1/Server2012/Server2012R2 and Windows 10 are NOT supported with the PL2303HXA/XA chips. Mainly as these chips are no longer in production and had reached it end of life. Again check what chipset you are trying to get to work.

The prolific usb to serial is very prolific (literally) devices that you find in many other equipment. There are drivers on this website for other drivers with issues. Use the search bar on the side to find the others if you dont have a pl2303 device but a different chipset series. There are a few on this website alone. Download the latest driver below. You can use the Windows 2K/XP driver in this package as a *signed* driver for the Ericsson DCU-11 data cable (which is based on a PL-2303 H chip but presents a custom Sony Ericsson device ID to Windows which is why no other signed drivers I See Morefound worked) under Windows 10 64bit. Thus, this one avoids the problems you get on more recent Windows versions with the unsigned 64bit driver for the DCU-11 that can be found here on driverguide. But beware - installation in such a case is pain, since the installation program is quite unfriendly and will neither unpack nor install the correct driver on a Windows 10 system by itself. [See next post]I bought an Arduino nano clone on ebay. It came with PL2303 instead of FTDI chip. When I plugged it in the usb port, it gets recognized and win 8.1 installed a driver automatically. But the driver can't start.
I can't even find where the pl2303 driver install program unzipped the drivers. A PL2303 driver IS installed after I plugged in the Nano but it shows error messages. The manufacturer specifically says PL2303 HXA is obsolete and has no win8 driver. Have you tried it yourself?
However if you didn't have a previous driver installed that worked - you'll have to go through the process of removing any PL-2303 driver installation programs, the actual driver files, and the information (.INF) file, BEFORE you are able to successfully install the correct driver.

The Prolific 32-bit PL-2303_Driver_Installer is a "Program" file and therefore installed to your computer and must stay. If you want to delete it - use the Windows "Uninstall a Program" or "Add or Remove Program" feature - however this will also uninstall the driver itself.
Windows Driver for Prolific PL2303 is installed automatically. If your "Device Manager" mark the PL2303 device (Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port) with yellow exclamation mark and the status of the device shows "code 10", then you probably got counterfeit (fake) cable or you are using the cable with Windows 8. In both cases you just have to install older version of Prolific drivers (1.6.0, 1.7.0, 1.8.0 or later won't work).
